Western Climate Initivate
(WCI)
Definition
A collaboration of U.S. states and Canadian provinces aimed at addressing climate change through regional greenhouse gas emissions reduction programs. Established in 2007, the WCI focuses on developing and implementing market-based mechanisms, such as cap-and-trade systems, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote the transition to a low-carbon economy. The initiative encourages participating jurisdictions to work together on shared climate goals, policies, and strategies.
