Perform, Achieve and Trade

(PAT)
Definition

Regulatory scheme aimed at improving energy efficiency in industries. The PAT scheme sets energy consumption reduction targets for specific sectors and provides tradable energy savings certificates to firms that exceed these targets. Companies that achieve greater efficiency than required can trade their surplus certificates with those struggling to meet their targets, thereby creating a market incentive for energy savings and promoting overall industrial energy efficiency.
