Kazakhstan Emissions Trading Scheme

(KAZ ETS)
Definition

A cap-and-trade system implemented in Kazakhstan to control and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Under this scheme, a cap is set on the total amount of emissions that can be emitted by covered sectors. Companies are allocated emission allowances, which they can trade or purchase in the market. The goal of the scheme is to incentivize emission reductions by allowing market mechanisms to determine the most cost-effective ways to achieve the overall emissions reduction target.
