A unit of energy measurement used to represent the amount of energy produced by burning one tonne of coal. It is used to standardize and compare energy outputs from different sources by converting them into a common unit. One tonne of coal equivalent is equivalent to approximately 29.3 gigajoules (GJ) of energy. This unit is commonly used in energy statistics and reporting to aggregate and compare energy consumption and production from various sources, including coal, oil, natural gas, and renewables.
