Conference of the Parties
(COP)
Definition
Supreme decision-making body of an international treaty, such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It brings together representatives from all parties (countries) to negotiate and make decisions on the implementation and development of the treaty. The COP meets annually to assess progress, set new targets, and address global climate challenges. Each COP session is designated by a number (e.g., COP26) and serves as a platform for international dialogue and coordination on climate action.
